Maternity lifestyle shoots are always fun to do as I get to meet young couples who are excited about the adventure that they are about to take.  Liana, knows exactly what she is heading for as she already has a young son, Henri …and he is just adorable …as cute as a button.  I had met this young family before this maternity lifestyle shoot, in fact, I had met them when Henri was just ten days old …but he wasn’t the star of the show that day ….and nor was his gorgeous parents, although mommy did play a significant role ….it was at his aunts wedding, Elsa and Carls wedding to be exact.  Liana was one of Elsa’s bridesmaids and she made such an impression on me that day as did Henri’s dad, Rudi …for first time parents of a 10 day old baby ..they rocked it!  Mom, looked absolutely amazing for a new mom and Dad was the perfect caregiver to young Henri and young Henri was an absolute angel that day!  Hardly heard a sound from him!  Now he is a gorgeous 19 month old and looking forward to being an older brother to a little sister who should be making her appearance in early August.  This young couple are going to have a pigeon pair …how awesome is that.  Although I do know that its not going to be too easy this time as dad is up to his eyeballs studying to be a surgeon and exams are just around the corner for him so unfortunately Liana is going to have to take a Lions share of the parenting duties for the next couple of months but she is also lucky to be surrounded by a loving family who will step in and help as much as they possibly can.

I first met Cecile a few years ago when we did a styled shoot for her …and I loved her ….she was and is a very special lady!  So when she contacted me to do a family shoot of her family as a gift for her parents …I was so excited to see her again and meet her special people!  Needless to say it was like meeting up with an old friend when I saw Cecile …she still has a special place in my heart!

Her nephews were the cutest little boys you could imagine.  They were busy and active, as little boys are meant to be!  Someone randomly asked me the other day if all family shoots were perfect and that she kept putting off a family shoot cos her children weren’t perfect …..well ….let me just say ….no family shoot is perfect …there are moments of imperfection ….but there are always moments of pure perfection …natural moments ….moments of families interacting in their own special, unique ways!

All it takes is for everyone to relax ..and thats my job …..I know children have their moments ….tantrums, crying is all part and parcel of being a child …just like smiles, chuckles and joy,  …and I am pretty patient enough to wait for those moments!  So my answer to parents who are afraid that their children wont behave during a family shoot ……dont worry about it …..I have had three of my own ….I know there are no perfect families, they also have short attention spans before they are bored ….but they are your family ….the one you need to create memories with before they grow up too fast!  Dont regret not taking those photos ….I know I do!!!!

Meet my crazy, fearless friend, Adri!  Recently I was in Johannesburg for a corporate shoot and Adri was my partner in crime during my time up there.  I cant remember when I had so much fun …she is game for anything …and I only had to say I wanted to be somewhere and she was ready and willing to take me wherever!  We found ourselves downtown Johannesburg and I was dying to discover The Old Parktown Station …we did eventually find it …and to top it off …she allowed me to put her in front of my lens and be my glamour model….now, Adri is tall …I think she is about 6ft2 …so perfect model material!  I had so much fun with this girl from the “south” …she made me do crazy things that I would have thought twice about ….she had me clambering on top of rooves to get the perfect picture ….and this from someone who has a fear of heights ….I dont think anyone else could have made me do this!

I have known this gorgeous family since their first son, Theo was six months old and I have so enjoyed watching how the family has grown.  Theo is such a cute, active three year old now and was very proud to show off his new brother and his motorbike …not sure what was more important …lol!  Elana had asked me to do a Newborn Lifestyle shoot of their new little addition, Dawid ..who was a star and was pretty much content the whole morning!  Its always fun to spend some time with my returning clients …they really make me have flashbacks to when I was a young mom with babies!  Cant believe have fast time goes ….just to think I met Elana three years ago!

]]> Cape Town photographer, Cape town Wedding photographerI have had the pleasure of doing a few shoots for Shelly and Oscar and I feel I have got to know them quite well so when I was asked to do Zara’s Newborn Lifestyle shoot, I felt I was going to visit friends who had just had a baby …and I was so excited to meet this tiny, little girl who had made her entrance five weeks early and weighed a small 1.9kg at birth …although I doubt if she would have been a big baby at full term as her mommy is the tiniest, daintiest lady who is sucha girly, girl …so I thought it was awesome when I heard they were having a little princess …as Shelley is going to have so much fun playing dress up with this little girl and I think Oscar is going to enjoy having another princess to spoil.  Zara is absolutely gorgeous and is a photogenic as her gorgeous Mama.  Take a peek at these pics and see how very smitten her parents are over this gorgeous little cherub!

]]> Twins ….double the trouble but double the joy!  I met these two adorable little babes when their Mom and Dad decided to come to Cape Town for a holiday!  Family photography introduces me to so many families from across the globe.  Moneeb & Aliya and their beautiful babes are from Manchester in the United Kingdom ….although they knew Cape Town pretty well as they had both worked here at Groote Schuur many years ago ….Aliya as a doctor and Maneeb as a scientist.  It was interesting to chat to this family …as these two Medical geniuses battled for many years to have these two munchkins ….it just shows …sometimes even with all the knowledge …..you still have to leave it in the hands of a Higher Power!  And after a long wait ….they were blessed  with a double dose of joy!  It was lovely to meet your lovely little family, Moneeb & Aliya ….wishing you a safe trip home …and hopefully Cape Town will see your family again in the near future!

I was fortunate enough to be able to do this gorgeous young couples’ family photography when Troy was just five weeks old.  Sarah-Jane is the tiniest, most petite little blonde ….I almost fell over when I heard Troy had been 4,4kgs at birth ….and even looking at her husband, Bruce, its hard to believe where this bonny boy came from.  But the beauty of having a big baby is that they are easier to handle …and Troy was so strong in holding his head up ….pretty amazing really.  I must just say …how lovely it is to see a young couple working as a team at parenting.  Their nursery was also a beautiful marriage between a designer and an engineer …..obviously Sarah-Jane has some amazing ideas and Bruce helps her bring it all together!  Their wood cladded wall worked as a perfect backdrop for some of the photos ….couldnt  have asked for anything better as a backdrop!

I first met Tas, Dylan and Jack when I did Jack’s Newborn photography three months ago.  Tas asked me if I would be available when her sister, Yasmin and her little boy , Zane, came to visit from Hong Kong as she thought it would be really cute to take photos of the cousins who were born exactly a year apart.  Jack was a month early and by being a month early ..he arrived on Zanes’ first birthday …how special was that!  I have to say this is one gorgeous family!  The little boys are just so cute …as cute as little buttons.  Zane is the cutest 15month old and Jack is really so precious ….I love the photograph where it looked like he was giving me such a charming smile.  Zane is a normal active toddler and hardly ever sat still …but he gave us lots of laughs and giggles ….I especially laughed when i saw him do the laundry …apparently thats his favourite pastime …he loves loading the washing machine with all the dirty clothes and then taking them out and giving the clothes a good shake ….no lie …go look …I have captured it!  These family moments were really precious as they dont get to see each other too often ….oceans and continents separate but thank goodness for technology …as Skype makes it so much easier these days!  It has definitely made the world a smaller place!  Tas reckons i am now their family photographer …..I really hope so …cos i would love to see Jack become a gorgeous toddler like his cousin …these two boys are going to be heartbreakers!
